Performance Reporting
The Government Performance and Results Act (GPRA) and the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) require that agencies report on their performance at the end of each fiscal year. Historically, Interior has combined its annual performance report with the agency financial report in a document known as the Performance and Accountability Report (PAR). Beginning in FY2009, Interior has decided to create a separate Agency Financial Report (AFR) and Annual Performance Report (APR). In order to report a fair and balanced picture of the Department’s performance, we have selected 25 Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that cover the vast majority of Interior’s mission responsibilities. Unlike for-profit companies that only address the positive highlights in their annual shareholder reports, we report on each of these 25 KPIs on an annual basis regardless of whether the performance improved or declined. In this manner, the public gets a balanced picture of the Department’s overall performance for that year, as well as the performance trending pattern. The report also includes performance and related funding information for all of the performance measures identified in the Department’s strategic plan for those readers who want more granular information.
